May 14, 2025 | Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida — In a landmark decision signaling a new era for professional golf, the PGA Tour has appointed Brian Rolapp, a seasoned executive from the National Football League (NFL), as its first-ever Chief Executive Officer. This move marks a significant restructuring aimed at navigating the evolving sports media landscape and addressing ongoing challenges within the sport.

Rolapp brings over two decades of experience in media rights, digital transformation, and global sports strategy. During his tenure at the NFL, he served as the Chief Media and Business Officer, where he played a pivotal role in reshaping how fans consume live sports. His expertise is expected to be instrumental in guiding the PGA Tour through its next phase of growth and innovation.

The appointment comes at a critical juncture for the PGA Tour, which is undergoing significant changes, including a $1.5 billion investment from Strategic Sports Group (SSG) and the creation of PGA Tour Enterprises, a for-profit entity. Rolapp will oversee both PGA Tour, Inc. and PGA Tour Enterprises, focusing on enhancing transparency, improving player relations, and exploring new opportunities for fan engagement.

Commissioner Jay Monahan, who has led the PGA Tour since 2017, announced plans to step down at the end of his current contract in 2026. Until then, he will transition his day-to-day responsibilities to Rolapp and focus on his role as a member of the PGA Tour Policy Board and the PGA Tour Enterprises Board. Monahan expressed confidence in Rolapp’s leadership, stating, “We’ve found exactly the right leader in Brian Rolapp, and I’m excited to support him as he transitions from the NFL into his new role leading the PGA TOUR.”

Rolapp’s selection was the result of an extensive search process led by a committee that included prominent figures such as Arthur M. Blank, Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, Jay Monahan, Joe Gorder, and Sam Kennedy. The committee unanimously recommended Rolapp for the role, citing his specific skill set necessary to build on the Tour’s momentum and his appreciation for what makes the Tour special.

In his new role, Rolapp will be tasked with addressing several pressing issues, including the ongoing negotiations related to LIV Golf and the need to modernize the Tour’s media and sponsorship strategies. He emphasized the importance of supporting players and expanding the Tour’s reach, stating, “Players are central to everything we do, and making sure they are supported and heard will be a top priority.”

Rolapp’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to unify the sport and increase fan engagement. His background in media and business operations is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the PGA Tour, particularly in enhancing its digital presence and exploring new avenues for growth.

The PGA Tour’s leadership transition reflects its commitment to evolving with the changing dynamics of professional sports. As Rolapp prepares to officially assume his new role later this summer, stakeholders across the golf industry will be watching closely to see how his leadership shapes the future of the Tour.
