The Washington Commanders have appointed Mark Clouse, former CEO of Campbell’s Company, as the team’s new president, effective late January 2025. This leadership change is part of owner Josh Harris’s ongoing efforts to revitalize the franchise following its acquisition in 2023.
Clouse brings a wealth of experience from the corporate sector, having served as president and CEO of Campbell’s since 2019. During his tenure, he oversaw significant brand growth and strategic transformation, including the company’s rebranding from Campbell Soup Company to Campbell’s Company.
Before his corporate career, Clouse served as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of captain. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he also played basketball for the Army Black Knights.
In his new role, Clouse will oversee all facets of the Commanders’ business operations, including marketing, sales, and community engagement. He succeeds Jason Wright, who made history in 2020 as the NFL’s first Black team president and will depart at the end of the current season.
Clouse expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity, stating, “I am incredibly grateful to Josh Harris and the Washington Commanders ownership group for the opportunity to lead this iconic franchise into a new chapter of growth.” He emphasized his commitment to building a championship-caliber organization and enhancing the fan experience.
Owner Josh Harris highlighted Clouse’s leadership credentials, noting, “In Mark, we have found a dynamic leader with a stellar track record of guiding organizations to excellence.” Harris underscored Clouse’s ability to connect with consumers and deliver best-in-class experiences.
The Commanders have undergone significant changes since Harris’s acquisition, including the hiring of General Manager Adam Peters and Head Coach Dan Quinn. The team achieved a 12–5 record in the 2024 season, marking its first playoff appearance since 2015 and advancing to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991.
Clouse’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to further the franchise’s transformation, leveraging his extensive experience in brand development and organizational leadership. As the Commanders continue to evolve both on and off the field, Clouse’s leadership is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the team’s future.
