HOUSTON, TX — NRG Energy Inc. announced the retirement of Rasesh Patel, President of its Consumer division, effective May 19, 2025. Patel, who joined NRG in March 2023 following the company’s acquisition of Vivint Smart Home, played a pivotal role in integrating home energy and smart home services into a unified consumer platform. Under his leadership, NRG advanced its strategic priorities and fostered a consumer-focused company culture.
“Rasesh has been instrumental in executing strategic priorities and driving innovation while shaping a lasting, consumer-focused company culture,” said Larry Coben, Chair, President, and Chief Executive Officer of NRG. “Under his leadership, we integrated our Vivint and home energy platforms to form a powerful Consumer platform, positioning NRG for long-term success.”
Patel will remain available in an advisory role to ensure a seamless transition. NRG anticipates naming a successor during the second quarter of 2025.
Reflecting on his tenure, Patel stated, “Leading the integration of Smart Home and Home Energy at NRG has been an honor. We set ambitious goals and executed with focus, passion, and teamwork, delivering a smarter, cleaner, and safer home ecosystem for customers.” He highlighted the development of the company’s first residential virtual power plant (VPP) offering as a significant achievement, demonstrating the integration of smart home technologies with energy solutions.
Prior to joining NRG, Patel held senior roles at AT&T and other technology-focused organizations, consistently leading initiatives that brought transformative change to large-scale consumer operations. As he steps away from his executive duties, Patel plans to focus on personal pursuits, advisory opportunities, and community involvement. “I’m excited to turn my focus toward philanthropic work, advisory roles where I can share my experience, and most importantly, spending more time with my wife, Suchi, and our family,” he said. He remains a long-term shareholder in NRG, expressing confidence in the company’s future.
