May 22, 2025 | Orange, CT — Avangrid, a prominent U.S. energy company and subsidiary of Spain’s Iberdrola Group, has announced the appointment of Jose Antonio Miranda as its new Chief Executive Officer. This leadership change follows the departure of Pedro Azagra, who has taken on the role of CEO at Iberdrola S.A., Avangrid’s parent company.
Miranda, who previously served as President and CEO of Avangrid Power, brings over two decades of international experience in the energy sector. His tenure at Avangrid Power was marked by significant growth in the company’s renewable energy portfolio, achieving over 10 gigawatts of installed capacity across 21 states. Prior to joining Avangrid in 2021, Miranda held senior leadership positions at Siemens Gamesa, including CEO for the Americas region and Chairman of its boards in the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil.
In conjunction with Miranda’s promotion, Kimberly Harriman has been elevated to the position of Deputy CEO. Harriman joined Avangrid in December 2020 and was promoted to Senior Vice President of Public and Regulatory Affairs in June 2022. She brings over 20 years of experience in energy policy and regulation, having previously held senior roles at the New York Power Authority and the New York Department of Public Service.
The leadership restructuring at Avangrid comes at a pivotal time as the company aims to invest $20 billion in the U.S. energy grid by the end of the decade. Miranda has expressed confidence in the new leadership team’s ability to drive innovation and deliver a reliable and resilient energy future.
Further strengthening its executive team, Avangrid has announced the appointments of Joe Purington as CEO of Avangrid Networks and Sy Oytan as CEO of Avangrid Power. Purington, with 28 years of experience at Central Maine Power, will oversee all of Avangrid’s operating companies. Oytan, who joined Avangrid in 2020, brings over 24 years of experience in developing and operating energy projects worldwide.
These strategic appointments underscore Avangrid’s commitment to strengthening its leadership and advancing its mission to provide sustainable energy solutions across the United States.
