Wipro Limited, a leading global technology services and consulting company, announced the appointment of Srini Pallia as its new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective April 7, 2024. This leadership transition follows the resignation of Thierry Delaporte, who stepped down to pursue interests outside the corporate sphere.
Pallia, a 32-year veteran of Wipro, previously served as the CEO of the company’s Americas 1 Strategic Market Unit, Wipro’s largest and fastest-growing business segment. In this role, he oversaw diverse industry sectors, including healthcare, consumer goods, life sciences, and retail, implementing growth strategies that significantly increased market share within these sectors .
Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji expressed confidence in Pallia’s leadership, stating, “Srini is an ideal leader to lead Wipro at this pivotal moment for our company and industry. Over the past four years, Wipro has undergone a major transformation under the most challenging external conditions. Srini has been an integral part of this journey. His client-centric approach, growth mindset, strong execution focus, and his commitment to Wipro’s values make him the perfect fit as we enter the next chapter of growth and profitability” .
Delaporte’s tenure, which began in July 2020, was marked by significant organizational changes, including two major operating model overhauls in three years. Despite these efforts, Wipro faced challenges such as underperformance in large deal acquisitions and several top-level departures. Delaporte’s resignation came ahead of the company’s Q4 and full-year earnings report for 2023-24, scheduled for April 19, 2024 .
Pallia’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for Wipro, as the company seeks to navigate a competitive landscape and address internal challenges. Analysts suggest that his deep institutional knowledge and proven leadership within Wipro position him well to drive growth and stability. His immediate priorities include enhancing employee morale, retaining top talent, and securing large-scale deals to compete effectively with industry leaders such as Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys .
In line with these objectives, Wipro announced a realignment of its global business lines effective April 1, 2025. This restructuring, the first under Pallia’s leadership, consolidates cloud, data, analytics, and AI-related businesses under the tech services business line. Additionally, the company introduced a new Business Process Services line and repositioned its consulting and design units to better cater to client needs .
Pallia’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s in management studies from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has also completed executive programs at Harvard Business School and the McGill Executive Institute .
As Wipro embarks on this new chapter under Pallia’s leadership, the company aims to leverage his extensive experience and client-focused approach to drive innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth in the global technology services sector.
