Southwest Airlines Implements Executive Leadership Overhaul to Strengthen Strategic Direction
On December 27, 2023, Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) announced a comprehensive reorganization of its executive leadership, effective December 1, 2023. This strategic realignment aims to enhance operational efficiency, elevate customer experience, and reinforce the company’s commitment to innovation and employee engagement.

The leadership restructuring includes several notable promotions and role enhancements:
- Justin Jones has been elevated to Executive Vice President of Operations, reporting directly to Chief Operating Officer Andrew Watterson. In his new role, Jones will oversee Operations & Hospitality, Air Operations, Technical Operations, and Operations Strategy & Design, focusing on modernizing and streamlining daily airline operations.
- Tony Roach advances to Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer, under Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Ryan Green. Roach will be responsible for the end-to-end customer experience, including Marketing, Customer Experience, Digital Experience, Travel Products, Customer Engagement, Customer Support & Services, and Innovation.
- Elizabeth Bryant is appointed as Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer, and Whitney Eichinger becomes Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer. Both will continue reporting to Chief Administration Officer Linda Rutherford, focusing on human resources, talent development, and corporate communications, respectively.
- Angela Marano joins the executive leadership team as Vice President of Artificial Intelligence and Data Transformation. She will lead a new organization dedicated to defining infrastructure and governance to harness the power of data and artificial intelligence, as well as overseeing the company’s Data Privacy Office.
- Jason Van Eaton is promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, reporting to Executive Vice President and Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer Mark Shaw. Van Eaton will manage legislative and regulatory policy, airport relationships, and other corporate affairs.
