As the final phase of the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) approaches, MedTrax Inc has amplified its digital compliance platform designed to assist pharmacies with the federal requirements surrounding drug supply chain integrity. The platform offers a suite of tools that align with regulatory expectations, focusing on operational efficiency and data security.
The DSCSA, passed in 2013, mandates a unified national system for tracking prescription drugs from manufacture to dispensing. Its enforcement requires all trading partners—including pharmacies, manufacturers, and wholesalers—to exchange serialized product data electronically, verify authorized trading relationships, and maintain digital records for a minimum of six years. The law also necessitates prompt reporting of suspicious or illegitimate products to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) via Form 3911.
To support these obligations, MedTrax’s platform incorporates secure login credentials with two-factor authentication, end-to-end encryption, and automatic system logging. The system facilitates data exchange using AS2 protocol and integrates with FDA reporting mechanisms. According to the company, these features are intended to reduce administrative burdens while ensuring compliance.
MedTrax President Jacob Record noted the importance of streamlining compliance processes. “Pharmacies often face time constraints when implementing regulatory protocols,” he said. “We focused on creating a system that’s functional, adaptable, and built with direct input from end users.”
Beyond basic compliance, the platform includes functionality such as batch scanning of serialized product data, integration with EPCIS (Electronic Product Code Information Services), and recall alert services. EPCIS technology enables traceability of pharmaceutical products, including information about origin, handling, and destination throughout the supply chain.
The platform can integrate with pharmacy management systems and includes tools for expired medication handling and reverse distribution. These features are designed to support ongoing compliance efforts and inventory control.
MedTrax’s development was shaped by its affiliation with Outdate Rx, a firm with many years of experience in pharmacy support services including recalls and returns. This collaboration has contributed to the platform’s workflow-oriented features, which were refined through direct consultation with pharmacy professionals.
As the DSCSA’s full enforcement draws closer, MedTrax’s platform aims to serve pharmacies of various sizes in navigating regulatory obligations while maintaining day-to-day operations. For more information on the software, visit: www.medtrax.com/promo
