JPMorgan Chase has appointed Jennifer Piepszak as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective immediately, succeeding Daniel Pinto, who will step down from the COO role by June 30, 2025, and retire as Vice Chairman at the end of 2026. Piepszak, a 30-year veteran of the bank, previously served as Co-CEO of the Commercial & Investment Bank and has held various senior roles within the firm, including Chief Financial Officer from 2019 to 2021.

In her new role, Piepszak will oversee JPMorgan’s global operations, technology services, and other critical functions. Her appointment is part of JPMorgan’s ongoing succession planning as CEO Jamie Dimon, who has led the bank since 2006, has not yet identified his successor.

“Jennifer’s leadership has been instrumental in our growth, and we are excited for her to take on this new role,” said Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan. “Her deep knowledge of our business and her ability to manage complex challenges make her the perfect leader to drive JPMorgan forward.”

Piepszak’s promotion underscores JPMorgan’s strategy to leverage internal talent for leadership positions, as the bank continues to prioritize technological innovation and operational excellence. She will also oversee the firm’s Global Corporate Centers in India and the Philippines, which employ over 80,000 professionals.

Despite speculation, Piepszak has stated she does not wish to be considered for the CEO position. “Jenn has made clear her preference for a senior operating role working closely with Jamie and in support of the top leadership team,” a company spokesperson said. “She is deeply committed to the future of the company and wants to help in any way she can.”

Doug Petno will replace Piepszak as Co-CEO of the Commercial and Investment Banking business, with John Simmons taking over Petno’s previous role. Pinto, who has been with JPMorgan for over four decades, was temporarily in charge in 2020 during Dimon’s emergency surgery.

Piepszak’s appointment as COO is seen as a significant step in JPMorgan’s leadership transition, positioning her as a key figure in steering the bank through a rapidly evolving financial landscape. Her extensive experience with the bank’s operations, technology, and financial strategy made her the ideal candidate for the COO role.
