Your Health Comes First with Dr. Jasmin Tzortzakakis Malik: Understanding Your Body Before Illness Takes Hold

CEO Times Contributor

Dr. Jasmin Malik brings a holistic approach to health education, helping individuals understand their body’s signals to build strong foundations for lifelong wellness.

For Dr. Jasmin Tzortzakakis Malik, health is not simply the absence of illness; it is the ability to notice and respond to the early signals the body sends long before health issues become established. With more than 20 years of clinical experience across primary and emergency care, public health, trauma informed care, and health inclusion, Dr Malik has been deeply committed and focused her career on improving both individual wellbeing as well as the larger systems that shape them.

As the founder of Your Health Comes First, Dr. Malik has created a platform where education meets empowerment. Drawing on her extensive medical training and career, as well as her lived experience of navigating long COVID, Dr. Malik has developed a program that encourages individuals to tune in to their bodies, recognize early health signals, and build the foundations of sustainable health.

The Journey: From Doctor to Educator

Dr. Malik’s journey into health education is both personal and professional. Trained as a physiotherapist, then a medical doctor and later as a GP, she has provided front-line care in diverse settings, from Everest Base Camp to leading mental health and homelessness initiatives. Her goal has always been to provide practical, holistic care grounded in science. In 2020, her experience with long COVID highlighted the need for preventive health education. “I realized how easily we ignore our health until it becomes a problem,” she says. “This is why I founded Your Health Comes First—to help people understand their health before it deteriorates.”

The Power of Preventive Health: Understanding Early Signals

At Your Health Comes First, the focus is not on clinical diagnosis or treatment. It is preventive health education that guides people to recognise early changes in how their bodies function. These subtle signals, often ignored or overlooked, can indicate areas of imbalance long before major health issues arise.

“This is not a treatment service,” Dr Malik explains. “It is an educational framework that helps people identify physiological strain, reduce triggers, and support their recovery processes. It complements clinical care by giving people tools they can use day to day.”

By teaching people how to notice early patterns that indicate physiological strain, the programme empowers them to make informed decisions about steps that support healing and stability.
“I provide tools that help people recognise where their systems are under strain. People often have insight into their own bodies, but they may not have a framework for interpreting it. My role is to help them organise that information, map patterns, and understand what it means for their health.”

“What sets me apart is my ability to connect science, service realities, and lived experience in a way that’s practical and understandable,” Dr. Malik explains. “I translate complex science into clear, actionable steps for everyday life.”

Your Health Comes First: Building Strong Foundations for Health

The heart of Dr. Malik’s work is helping people build strong foundations for health and recovery. Whether someone is dealing with the aftermath of long COVID, chronic illness, or simply aiming to optimize their well-being, the Your Health Comes First approach offers tools, guidance, and education for everyone.

In addition to the educational programs Dr. Malik offers, her books provide readers with a grounded exploration of the body’s signals and the science of recovery.

”The Human Cost of Long COVID – A Doctors Journey Through Illness, Loss and Recovery” (available December 2025) and the upcoming “When the Body Whispers”(available early 2026), are designed to provide people with practical, science-backed advice for addressing early health signals, reducing stress, and developing habits that support long-term wellness.

“The body is constantly communicating with us. We often dismiss it until things get really bad. But when we listen closely to the early signals, we can avoid many serious health issues that develop later on,” says Dr. Malik. “My work helps individuals tune in to their own rhythms and start understanding their unique health needs.”

Leading with Compassion: From Crisis Care to Wellness Education

Dr. Malik’s clinical leadership has extended far beyond individual care. In 2017, she became the Clinical Lead for Mental Health and Homelessness in Camden, where she worked to improve mental health support for vulnerable groups. Her work has shaped healthcare policy at local, regional, and national levels.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Malik initially led the clinical response for Health Inclusion across North Central London, one of the five sub-regions of London. While continuing in this role, she expanded her leadership to cover the entire London region for three years. In both roles, Dr. Malik ensured the most marginalized communities were supported through the crisis. Her leadership in mental health, trauma-informed care, and health inclusion led to significant improvements in healthcare accessibility for those in crisis and has been recognized as an example of ‘Good Practice’ by NHS England.

Dr. Malik’s personal experience with long COVID was the catalyst for her pivot toward wellness education. Navigating the complexities of recovery without adequate support gave her a deeper understanding of the challenges many face. This experience now drives her work at Your Health Comes First, where she empowers others with the education and tools to proactively manage their health.

Award Recognition: Honoring Excellence in Preventive Health Education

In 2025, Your Health Comes First was proudly recognized as the “Best Preventive Health Educator in the UK” by the prestigious Evergreen Awards.

This honor celebrates Dr. Jasmin Malik’s outstanding contribution to advancing preventive health education and her commitment to helping individuals understand and respond to their body’s early health signals. The Evergreen Awards are known for recognizing leaders who drive innovation and compassion in their respective fields, making this achievement a testament to the profound impact of Dr. Malik’s work.

Books and Programs: Bringing Clarity to Complex Science

Dr. Malik’s  first book, is The Human Cost of Long COVID – A Doctor’s Journey Through Illness, Loss and Recovery. She explains, “Long COVID has reshaped more than 400 million lives across the world. This book brings science and lived experience together to explain what happens when COVID does not end with the infection. It offers clarity, validation, and a practical framework for those living with prolonged symptoms, and it recognises the wider community of people with post viral and poorly understood conditions. It is also written for those supporting someone with Long COVID, whose role is often unseen but essential. And it is for clinicians, offering the perspective of a colleague to help deepen understanding of the lived reality of this illness.”

Dr. Malik’s second book, When the Body Whispers, will be released in early 2026.  The book focuses on recognizing early signals of bodily strain and offers a practical guide to understanding and restoring balance. It also examines how stress and trauma shape the body and influence health over time.

Combining science, clinical insight, and lived experience, both books introduce the Adaptive Integration Framework in different clinical and lived experience contexts, and provide tools to help people interpret their body’s signals. “I wanted my books to be accessible and practical,” Dr. Malik says, “so people can apply complex science to their daily lives.” Her work empowers readers to recognize early signs of imbalance and take proactive steps for better health.

Bridging the Gap: A Comprehensive Framework for Understanding Post-Viral and Chronic Conditions

Dr. Malik’s Adaptive Integration Framework (AIF) offers a structured, holistic way to understand how prolonged illness affects various systems in the body. As noted by experts in the field, “Long COVID, and post-viral illness more broadly, still lacks cohesive understanding, clear pathways, and accessible tools. Many people are left to interpret complex symptoms on their own, while clinicians work without a unified framework to guide their care. This book seeks to fill that gap, blending emerging research with lived experience and practical strategies in a way that is both clear and compassionate.” Dr. Malik’s AIF helps individuals identify and interpret their body’s signals, offering a comprehensive framework that is relevant not only for Long COVID but also for a wider set of post-infectious and multisystem conditions. “It makes sense of complexity without oversimplifying it,” the foreword adds, emphasizing how the framework provides clarity and structure where it’s most needed.
