From Washington, D.C. to international film festivals, Norman King IV redefines storytelling with vision, resilience, and cultural depth.
A Vision Born in Washington, D.C.
One brisk autumn evening in Washington, D.C., a young Norman King IV sat quietly in front of a screen that flickered with the kind of films that would stay in his imagination long after the credits rolled. For most, movies were entertainment. For Norman, they were a lifeline, a way of understanding the world, of stepping into other people’s shoes, of telling truths that words alone could not capture. That moment, small as it seemed, planted the first seeds of a journey that would carry him across continents, cultures, and disciplines.
Norman was born and raised in the nation’s capital, a place buzzing with ambition and diverse stories. From the beginning, he carried within him a curiosity not only about what made people different, but also about what connected them. Writing stories in his journal daily and then learning digital editing on Adobe Premiere at an early age, Film became the medium where those questions could be asked, tested, and answered.
A Global Education, A Global Perspective
In 2019, Norman made a bold leap into a unique opportunity: the Global BFA program, a collaboration between Emerson College in Boston and the Paris College of Art. Unlike traditional film programs, this one was transatlantic, designed to immerse its students in cultural intersections. For Norman, it was more than education, it was transformation.
During his years abroad, Norman didn’t just learn the mechanics of filmmaking; he absorbed the rhythms of multiple languages, lifestyles, and perspectives. Being fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Russian, gave him not only words but windows into worlds that enriched his storytelling. Each film project was not just an assignment but an experiment in bridging differences.

Crafting Stories That Resonate
During his time in Europe, Norman began directing short films that delved into themes of identity, belonging, and perspective. His work was never confined to screens and scripts; it was a collaboration with peers from around the world, each contributing their unique voices to the creative process.
One of his most innovative endeavors was the creation of My 2 Cents, an online talk show that gave teens and young adults a platform to share experiences often overlooked by mainstream media. The show reflected Norman’s instinctive understanding: stories are most powerful when they provide a platform for others to speak.
This same show would later evolve into his current TV show, Meet the Makers, under his new LLC, NKIV Productions.
The Breakthrough: Look At Me
In 2022, Norman graduated with dual Film Arts degrees from both Emerson and the Paris College of Art. His thesis project, a short film titled Look At Me, became the turning point of his career. In 2024, Norman made the move to Los Angeles, where he launched his new talk show, Meet the Makers, interviewing creatives based in L.A. and abroad. Additionally, Norman has completed two new Feature Drama Film screenplays, both featuring Gen Z leads.
Featuring an international cast, the film told a universal story about being seen, an exploration of identity and recognition that transcended language and borders. It was no small feat for a student project, yet its reception proved Norman’s instincts were right. The film traveled to festivals in Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., earning attention and opening doors for a young filmmaker ready to carve his space in the industry.
Transition to Professional Media
While many artists struggle to find footing after graduation, Norman’s path led him directly into one of the most respected public broadcasters in the United States: PBS/WETA. By 2023, he was working as an Assistant to the Executive Producer on the National Productions: Special Projects team.
Here, Norman became part of initiatives that focused on healthcare and well-being, a vital arena where storytelling and public service meet. His role included fundraising and research, skills that deepened his understanding of media production beyond the creative side. This behind-the-scenes experience gave him an insider’s view of how major projects are conceptualized, funded, and delivered to audiences nationwide.

What Sets Norman Apart
Norman’s story is not one of chance but of deliberate choice and resilience. What sets him apart is not simply talent, though that is evident, but perspective.
- Cultural fluency: With mastery of four languages, Norman can craft stories that resonate across diverse audiences.
- International training: His dual education grounded him in both American and European cinematic traditions.
- Festival recognition: His film Look At Me demonstrated both artistic vision and audience impact.
- Professional transition: His work at PBS/WETA shows his ability to merge creativity with industry professionalism.
In an era where audiences demand stories that reflect the complexity of their realities, Norman brings authenticity rooted in lived experience and global sensitivity.
A Future Written in Film
For Norman, the journey is just beginning. His early accomplishments, festival screenings, professional collaborations, and original productions are signposts of a career destined to expand. Whether through feature films, documentaries, or innovative media projects, his mission remains the same: to tell stories that connect, challenge, and inspire. In 2024, Norman moved to Los Angeles, where he launched his talk show Meet the Makers, interviewing creatives based in L.A. and abroad. He also completed two new feature drama film screenplays featuring Gen Z leads.
In addition, Norman helped produce marketing and social media content for Adventures in the Great Beyond Musical, which ran from September to December 2024 at the Hudson Theater in Hollywood.
The boy who once sat transfixed in a darkened theater is now the man creating stories for others to witness. And in that transformation lies the proof of film’s enduring power: to change not just how we see the world, but how we see ourselves.
