Instead, she jumped straight into the entertainment world, securing a position as the Executive Assistant to the CEO of an indie film company. Just two weeks after passing the New York Bar, she became a partner at that company, showcasing her ability to make a significant impact in a competitive industry.
For over nine years, Monica worked as a Production Executive/In-House Counsel, balancing her legal skills with a deep passion for the entertainment world. She embraced every opportunity, including auditioning for film roles and writing her own web series—projects that continue to inspire her and shape her journey. These experiences have fueled her drive to innovate and explore new creative avenues in the industry.
“I’ve always loved the creative side of things,” Monica explains. “I never wanted to be just the lawyer. I wanted to be involved in the projects, to have a seat at the creative table, and bring my own ideas to life. But I didn’t want to use my legal credentials to get gigs, I wanted to earn my place as a creative professional.”
Building a Vision for the Future
Monica’s passion for both entertainment and law has driven her to create her own film production company. She envisions a space that reflects diversity, inclusion, and empowerment, where stories from marginalized voices are heard and celebrated.
“I want diversity and inclusion to be more than just a trend,” Monica says. “It should be the reality. So many voices are excluded from mainstream narratives. I want to change that and create opportunities for those who have been overlooked.”
In addition to her production company, Monica is also a licensed attorney specializing in entertainment transactional law. Her unique perspective allows her to bridge the gap between the legal and creative sides of the industry, helping artists protect their rights and navigate the complexities of the entertainment world.
“I’m here to help creatives, whether they’re actors, writers, musicians, or filmmakers, protect their rights,” Monica explains. “Many creatives don’t fully understand the legal side of things, and that’s where I come in. I ensure their interests are protected.”
