Gabriel Olague’s story, “The Adventures of a Dryback,” is one of perseverance, unexpected turns, taking the less traveled road, and developing the ability to solve “impossible” problems.
Born in Texas and raised in Mexico, Gabriel had a perfect childhood. But things took an unexpected turn when he was 12, and his father got addicted to gambling and lost everything. The family was suddenly thrown into financial hardship.
Despite these challenges, he worked hard to study and support his family. But it was not all hard work. He taught himself to play the guitar and ended up playing and singing in the best Rock band in his High School. Out of the blue, they got a recording contract!
But a few days before the recording, Gabriel got kicked out of the band and was replaced by someone else. This heartbreaking story is one of the chapters of the book.
Gabriel was barely recovering from depression when, fresh out of High school, his journey took another unexpected turn.
At age 17, he found out that his American citizenship was a hindrance, and he had no choice but to self-deport from Mexico back to the U.S. with only a few clothes and beginner-level English.
The struggle to get a job, learn English, and work himself through college is another chapter in the book.
A successful career ended by the most difficult decision of his life
His college degree in Civil Engineering brought instant success. He had a career, a house-building partnership, and a Herbalife Network Marketing business. So, at age 27, he found himself on route to financial independence.
And it was while practicing Civil Engineering that Gabriel discovered he could solve problems other Civil Engineers could not.
This started to define an “Impossible” problem as one given to several people, and all of them agree that it cannot be solved. It was then assigned to Gabriel, and he would solve it.
He had practiced engineering for 5 years when his journey took ANOTHER unexpected turn. He received an invitation to do missionary work.
Those happy days after his graduation, and what follows, are not covered in his book.
It was the most difficult decision of his life. In order for Gabriel to join the ranks of missionaries, he had to:
Convince his girlfriend.
Quit his job. Yes, abandon his career!
Quit two profitable businesses.
Sell his sports car.
And sell his house.
Would he do all of that?
Well, to the dismay of friends and family, he did all of the above, except convincing his girlfriend, who flatly refused to join him.
This heartbreak is not covered in the book either.
A Missionnaire Extraordinaire
Gabriel ended up doing 14 years of missionary work, which took him from El Paso to Los Angeles, to Florida, Mexico City, Portland, Oregon, the California desert, and several islands of the Caribbean.
The projects Gabriel was assigned to were combined with a steady study of the human mind and the human spirit. His ability to solve “Impossible” problems bloomed. Most of the time, Gabriel would instantly see the solution that others missed.
However, there were a few times when he did not see it. So he would pace back and forth for a minute or so, and BAM! The solution would come out of nowhere!
Gabriel has no idea where these solutions come from. But he is not a stranger to these mysterious, unexplained influences.
A chapter of the book describes his mom saving their house from foreclosure with a solution that appeared out of nowhere.
This chapter in the book is named “My Mom’s Angel.”
Hanging around the best in the world
Gabriel completed his 14 years of missionary work in Los Angeles, where his studies of the mind and spirit culminated in a PhD in Applied Philosophy.
Some areas where it is being applied include: criminal rehabilitation, human rights advocacy, literacy and education, business administration, drug-free system to handle psychosomatic illnesses, drug rehabilitation and education, and disaster relief. All of them are now considered to be the best in the world. And Gabriel has been involved in most of them for decades.
Some of the projects Gabriel worked on and solved were translated and distributed worldwide. 167 counties so far. This continues to this day, with a ripple effect that shows no signs of slowing down,
All told, Gabriel helped hundreds of people directly. Indirectly, the number is probably approaching one million now.
But after 14 years of missionary work, Gabriel found out that his Civil Engineering degree was outdated, so he went into construction.

Becoming one of the foremost authorities on illegal immigration
While working in construction, Gabriel received 5 hours of daily training in American politics from the best political commentators on AM radio for 20 years.
The book covers how he now found himself as one of the foremost authorities on illegal immigration. Specifically, the more than 40 million already in the United States illegally.
To recap:
– He was born in El Paso, Texas, but grew up in Ciudad Juárez, México. He became very familiar with the border situation. He saw it. He lived it.
– He personally met people who crossed the Rio Grande illegally and people who are working in the United States with fake documents.
– He was an illegal alien in México himself, and had to self-deport back to Texas at age 17.
-He is a Civil Engineer. He is trained to analyze situations mathematically, leaving the emotions out of the equations and coming up with solutions that solve the problem and can be implemented within a budget and within a reasonable time period.
– He spent more than a decade in the streets of Los Angeles asking people at random what was it that was stressing them the most. Hispanics would tell him about dear ones they had left behind in Mexico and had not seen for years. And whom they could not visit because they might not be able to get back to the USA.
On the other hand, our President, Vice President, and Congress have not seen it. They have not lived it. It is not real to them. So, they come up with Ivory Tower solutions that don’t solve the problem and make matters worse.
Ending 6 decades of government failure
No one has helped the more than 40 million already in the United States since 1965, when the “Bracero” program ended.
And then, it happened again. Gabriel was walking on the streets of Los Angeles when an OUTSIDE-THE-BOX solution that solves the whole thing came to him out of nowhere!
It solves the problem of the more than 40 million already here, including those Biden let in. It solves Wet-back, DACA and their parents, overstayed visas, TPS, Wet Feet/Dry Feet, and the more than 1,000,000 cases pending in the courts.
It bankrupts the fake documents industry, catches criminals and terrorists, and puts the “Coyotes” out of business.
All of that with a 5-page bill that leaves current immigration law untouched.
Not only that; Gabriel created a checklist that illegals follow for 10 years. He called his solution “PARFA.” Provisional American Residency Family Act.” And he called his checklist the Form “1810.”
Promotion runs into a brick wall
Gabriel started sending copies of his solution to anyone who could help him implement it.
Then Biden got in and opened the border wide open. The chances of passing the PARFA bill were zero.
Next, we got Trump 2. Among other things, he promised mass deportations. Gabriel agrees with deporting murderers, rapists, thieves, fraudsters, sex and drug traffickers, etc.
But then ICE started to go for people who have jobs and families, who are not on welfare, and who can pass a background check. This is causing riots and protests. These people can be helped with PARFA.
Another solution is the “Dignity Act,” proposed by Republican Maria Elvira Salazar and Democrat Veronica Escobar, which would leave millions in limbo.
A solution in the form of a book
The first order of business is to stop the unfair deportations. President Trump can do it with an addendum to his mass deportations Executive Order. He will do it if enough people write to him and ask him.
For a change, Gabriel came up with a solution: a book about his story, with a sample letter to Trump that people can print, sign, and send.
This book is “The Adventures of a Dryback,” or “Las Aventuras de un Espalda Seca” in Spanish. Both in the same book.
Marching Orders
This is not only a call to action, but a fresh, thoughtful, and humane approach that balances security with compassion, emphasizes the importance of understanding the humanity behind the headlines, and recognizes the contributions that immigrants make to American society.
It all starts with people buying the book, reading it, and printing and sending the letter to Trump.
It all starts with a Google search:
